First Lady Jill Biden represented America at Saturday's coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey.

Dressed entirely in cornflower blue, the First Lady, who was asked by President Joe Biden to represent the U.S. in his place, witnessed the historic occasion as one of the 2000 guests inside the famed cathedral. Her arrival marked the first time that a U.S. first lady was in attendance for a British coronation.

“You can’t imagine that moment where you actually see the crown being placed on the head of the king and then on the head on the queen,” she shared in a telephone interview with The Associated Press after the ceremony in London. “It’s really surreal to see and experience that moment.”

Biden's outfit featured a cornflower blue Ralph Lauren set that include a crossover neckline top over a pencil skirt, Vogue reported. She paired that with matching suede gloves and a small fascinator, which followed the day's dress code request for “morning dress, lounge suit, or national dress.” Her choice of an American designer served as "a subtle visual message that she’s supporting the country in such a high-profile moment," Vogue continued. "The color blue also seems to be an intentional choice, as it is prominent in both the flags of the United States and the United Kingdom—a reflection of the 'special relationship' between the countries, perhaps, and a show of unity."

As her guest at the big event, Biden was joined by her granddaughter Finnegan Biden, 23. Finnegan, the daughter of Hunter Biden, wore a pastel yellow gown by Markarian.

Some people following the coronation on social media noted that the duo's blue and yellow outfits are the colors of the Ukrainian flag, and that the choice of outfits were potentially intentional nods to the country. Yahoo Life reached out to the White House regarding the colors but did not receive an answer at the time of publication.

Biden did meet with Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, during a reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace just one day before the coronation. She also occasionally makes a nod to Ukraine in her wardrobe: At the State of the Union address in March 2022, she wore a blue, satin long-sleeved gown from designer Sally LaPointe, with a sunflower — the national flower of Ukraine — embroidered on one sleeve near her wrist, as Yahoo Life previously reported.

In her interview with the AP, Biden called the occasion “just amazing to see,” and cited “such beauty in the pageantry of the ceremony.” But she also kept a sense of humor about the pomp and circumstance of the occasion. When recalling her discussion with Catherine, Princess of Wales, Biden shared that the princess noted "she didn’t know if her son could sit still for two hours and we just had a good laugh over it,” Biden recalled. “It’s just something, I think, that’s common to a lot of us.”

While he wasn't in attendance, President Biden tweeted his congratulations to King Charles III and Queen Camilla, citing "the enduring friendship between the U.S. and the U.K.," which he called "a source of strength for both our peoples."

As for other Americans set to appear at the festivities, everyone ranging from Tom Cruise and adventurer Bear Grylls to Nicole Scherzinger and Lionel Richie are expected to appear at the coronation concert, which will take place near Windsor Castle the day after the historic ceremony. Katy Perry's presence at the coronation ceremony went viral after she struggled to find her seat, Yahoo previously reported.
