Tonight, television’s biggest stars gathered at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for the 71st annual Emmy Awards. During the ceremony, the 21-year-old actor brought home the statuette for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for playing Korey Wise in When They See Us, which stars Asante Blackk, Caleel Harris and Ethan Herisse.
He beat out Mahershala Ali for True Detective, Benicio Del Toro for Escape at Dannemora, Hugh Grant for A Very English Scandal, Jared Harris for Chernobyl and Sam Rockwell for Fosse/Verdon.
The Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category has been around for quite some time, though it was originally called Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie prior to 2015.
Previous winners include Darren Criss for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Riz Ahmed for The Night Of, Courtney B. Vance for The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Richard Jenkins for Olive Kitteridge, Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock: His Last Vow and Michael Douglas for Behind the Candelabra.
