Jessie J is very sorry for the recent “Bang Bang” drama. ICYMI, the situation is basically this: Jessie told Glamour a story about how she, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj ended up collaborating on the song. Nicki read Jessie’s account of things, did *not* agree, and jumped on Twitter to correct the record.

Here’s how Jessie said things went down:

“Max Martin wrote ‘Bang Bang,’ and Ariana had been played it, I’d been played it, and we both loved it. We just said, ‘Why don’t we both do it?’ So Ariana stayed on the second verse, I recorded the first verse, and then Nicki was played it in the studio and was like, ‘I’ve got to jump on this.’ We didn’t go to her and ask; she wanted to do it. I’ll never forget: I was in my bedroom in my flat in London, and I got sent the version with Nicki on it. I just sat at the end of my bed holding my phone, staring at the floor, going, ‘How the fuck did I land this?’ I literally felt like I’d won a competition.”

Nicki explained that she did not, in fact, “ask to get on” the song but that the label had asked her to do a verse and it was basically just a money gig for her.

“Babe @JessieJ I didn’t hear the song & ask 2 get on it,” she tweeted. “The label asked me 2 get on it & paid me. How would I have heard the song? Chiiille what am I the damn song monitor? Snoopin around for songs chile? This was said by another artist recently as well. Y’all gotta stop Love U.”

To make matters worse, Jessie’s version of events also included a pretty glaring error about Ariana’s involvement in the song—namely, that she cowrote it with Max Martin and therefore wasn’t “played it” and “loved it” so much as “helped create it” and “was proud of the amazing work she did.”

This weekend, Jessie jumped on Instagram to offer a lengthy mea culpa about the whole ordeal and to explain how she got her facts so very wrong.

“I respect you publicly being yourself @nickiminaj • So here I am being myself,” she began, before some self-deprecating musing about the potential origins of the “weird energy” between her and Nicki. “If we can’t laugh in the lives we have been blessed with. What’s the point. It really isn’t that deep.”

Jessie went on to gush about the collab (and apologize to Ariana for not realizing she cowrote the song):

“From the moment I met you to now, I have shown you nothing but love and gratitude for how f***ing blessed I was to have you and @arianagrande who btw wrote ‘Bang Bang’ with the insanely talented Max Martin, which I found out today. Jesus. What a day. Sorry, Ari. I never knew. Wild.

“‘I felt like I had won a competition’ did back then and still do now.

“I’m the first person to admit ‘Bang Bang’ would NEVER have been what it was without you guys.”

And then she took a second to explain how she got her facts so wrong:

“I’m sorry I got the story wrong all these years, I was told you heard the song and wanted to be on it by someone clearly gassing me up at the label. (Bless them and my naive ass.) Thank you for clarifying I was wrong on that and Do it like dude 😂 Told me huh.”

“Look, the song did its damn thing. I will never say you asked to be on the song ever again,” she wrote to wrap things up. “Although all this drama means memes and man have the memes of me have kept me entertained all day. Swipe for a good old laugh. Always love and light from me babes.”
