Jessica Simpson is gearing up to release new music and go on tour in 2024 (be still my millennial heart!), but she is still learning a thing or two from her kids. The “Irresistible” singer revealed what her eldest daughter Maxwell, 11, recently taught her about beauty, and it’s incredibly sweet.

In an interview for Footwear News ahead of her recent Icon Award, Simpson shared that her pre-teen is focused on her “glow-up.”

“She is very much into the glow-up stuff, how to better yourself,” the Open Book author told the outlet. “I had to have her explain it to me the other day, because I thought it was literally putting highlighter on her cheeks.” Oh, Jessica. It’s OK, who can possibly keep up with all the teen slang now?

“She said, ‘Mom, no, it’s your inner glow and how to glow up everything in your life,’” Simpson continued. “Wow, that’s a beautiful concept.” Seriously! We love that she’s so focused on inner beauty — something that’s rare for tweens and teens in general, and we can imagine even more so as a child of a celebrity. She is taking nepo baby to a new level, and working to keep her mom grounded instead of the other way around. You love to see it!

Simpson was pretty happy that this was her daughter’s takeaway from social media. “If that’s what you’re learning on TikTok, keep going,” the Newlyweds alum said, adding, “but just know, those are all filters.”

Simpson, who shares Maxwell, Ace, 10, and Birdie Mae, 4, with husband Eric Johnson, often posts about her kids. Earlier this month, she shared a cute selfie with Maxwell, who is her little lookalike with matching blonde hair and similar smiles.

“Choose to be kind today because you never know how much someone might need it 💚💚💚,” Simpson captioned the post.

But sometimes, her posts draw backlash. Back in August, she shared a photo of her and Maxwell. Simpson was dressed in a hot pink mini dress, and Maxwell wore a denim crop top shirt and skirt, which people criticized to no end in the comments section.

At the end of the day, Simpson doesn’t let the haters get her down.

In her interview with Footwear News, Simpson also reflected on what she has learned since growing up. “My younger self definitely cared and wanted to be accepted,” she said. “I had to grow up in the business. Words can hurt. But it’s the icons who stay. Because they don’t believe it. They know that their purpose is bigger.”

Simpson continued, “I’m not here searching for what could make an impact or an iconic moment. I set out to be vulnerable, honest, authentic.” That’s all you can do!
