It’s a red carpet secret.

Jessica Lange, the woman that you are! Knowing that the 74-year-old actress is in a movie or TV show is enough to get me seated. I watched American Horror Story until she left (which is not coincidentally when the show went downhill). She appeared at this year’s Oscars ceremony looking absolutely divine in a sparkly black dress, impeccable posture, and a radiant, smooth, and poreless complexion. I’ll update you if I learn anything about her pristine posture, but in the meantime, I can share that her complexion was thanks to Alleven’s Instant Perfector Foundation.

Alleven does not have the household recognition of, say, a drugstore brand, but it’s an open secret in Hollywood. Its products are popular on the red carpet and have been used by celebrities including Margot Robbie, Zendaya, and Scarlett Johansson. The Instant Perfector is an all-in-one product — it’s equal parts serum, primer, face and body foundation, and concealer.

Per the brand, Lange’s makeup artist Jo Strettell said she used Instant Perfector to “even out her complexion” since  it “ultimately helps with dark circles, redness and lines.” The cosmetic components come from purported “tone-adapting pigments” and “micro-resins” that ensure longevity. The former hopefully explains the limited shade range and the latter why it’s become a red carpet staple. The skincare ingredients are a little opaque, but the product description states that a botanical compound is responsible for fading discoloration and rejuvenating the complexion.

At $147, it’s definitely an investment, but one reviewer who purchased the item at Neiman Marcus called it “amazing and worth the price.” The shopper added, “I kind of hoped it wouldn't be so I could say ‘ugh you wasted all that money,’ and never buy it again.” The reason(s) they’re a convert? “I have a skin condition that is hard to cover. This covers it well and blends in perfectly… a little goes a long way.”

Head to Alleven to shop the Jessica Lange-used Instant Perfector. And if you want more of her glow, check out the brand’s Colour Shield Glow, a body enhancer that’s equal parts coverage and radiance.
