Jesse Plemons revealed in a recent interview with GQ that constant questions about his weight gain have helped him to understand what women in Hollywood deal with all the time.

For Black Mass last year, Jesse had to gain weight and someone was always commenting on it.

“Everyone’s like, ‘You gained all this weight!’ I was like, ‘No, I’ve been fat for a while now.’ Yeah, talking about it, if anything, makes me a little more empathetic— sympathetic?—to what women have to go through. My God!” the Fargo star said.

Can we pause and give Jesse the biggest round of applause for that comment? We need more enlightenment like that, honestly.

“Men in general are just not held under the same microscope in that way. It’s bizarre that that’s all people wanted to talk about. Why is that some sort of a badge or some sort of accomplishment? Like, anyone can do that. You just have to eat sh**,” he added.

The reverse was true as well — when Jesse lost weight, people still had something to say, and he wasn’t too fond of it.

“I had lost a little bit of weight at the Fargo premiere, and I remember this guy, like, ‘What’s your secret to losing the weight? Tell us!’ I was like, ‘Well, I was eating everything, and then I just stopped eating terrible food.’ It’s not too complicated,” he said.

Hopefully the industry will progress to a point where an actor or actress’s body is no one else’s business but their own.
