New Jersey Police Officers Safely Rescue Baby Seal From Crossing Highway

We're so glad these officers spotted this baby.

New Jersey Police Officers jumped to the rescue when they spotted an unusual animal crossing the road. Well, it's not that the animal is unusual. It's just you wouldn't typically see this animal walking along the highway.

The officers saw an adorable baby seal trying to cross the highway. It looked like she was on a mission to get to the bay that was across Route 35. Luckily, the Brick Township Police Department officers saw this in time and were able to stop traffic before anything went wrong. Take a look at the news report from 6abc to find out what happened to this precious baby!

Aww! We're so glad officers were in the right place at the right time and spotted the baby seal. By stopping traffic, the pup was able to safely cross the street. And yes, pup is what a baby seal is called! Who knew?!

After safely making it across, the officers kept a close eye on this 36-pound baby as she wandered into someone's yard. This is when Marine Mammal Stranding Center animal rescuers arrived on the scene. They took this pup into its care to check for any injuries or illness before releasing it back into the wild. Amazing!

Believe it or not, this is not the first time a seal has wandered away from its home. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center receives several reports of seal sightings, according to 6ABC. "...Seals are typically born on islands, and so when they get lost, their natural instinct is to keep wandering until they spot a body of water," the article says. The baby seal was just trying to make her way to the bay! Now that we have that tidbit, it's important to know what to do if you ever come across a wandering seal. Contact the local marine center!
