New Jersey clerk offers free group wedding at golf course

A busy New Jersey county clerk is offering free wedding services to couples willing to get married during a June 26 mass nuptial at a Monmouth County golf course.

“Attention engaged couples!” Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon posted on social media. “We’re seeking Monmouth County couples to tie the knot at this special ceremony at Colts Neck’s Hominy Hill!”

The ceremony will take place in a clubhouse. Newlyweds will be allowed to roam the grounds afterwards and take photos. Hanlon’s office is reportedly expecting as many as 20 couples to participate, according to NJ.Com. Each couple is limited to four guests, but the event will be livestreamed. A reception is not part of the deal.

According to Hanlon, her office came up with the idea as a way of dealing with the hundreds of wedding requests they receive every month. NJ.com said participating brides and grooms will recite their vows simultaneously.

Monmouth County Park System calls the hosting venue “the crown jewel” of its public golf course offerings. It boasts 138 bunkers and water near four holes.

Saying “I do” overlooking the links is nothing new. Brooklyn Dyker Beach Golf Course, Grand Oaks Country Club in Staten Island and Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Course in the Bronx frequently host weddings. But group nuptials are less common.
