The Marvel actor is reported to be in critical condition following a serious snow plow accident on New Year's Day.

More details have come to light following the traumatic snow plow accident that landed Jeremy Renner in the hospital on New Year's Day.

The Marvel actor, 51, was reported to have been plowing snow at his home near Reno, Nevada on Sunday, Jan. 1, when a weather-related incident resulted in injury. Renner was airlifted to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

A representative for Renner confirmed to Deadline on Monday that the Hawkeye star has undergone surgery and is in "critical but stable condition" after suffering "blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries" during the accident.

While it is still unclear what exactly happened to cause the terrifying accident, the mayor of Reno revealed that Renner was reportedly helping a stranded motorist in the snow when the terrifying incident occurred.

"He was helping someone stranded in the snow," Mayor Hillary Schieve told the Reno-Gazette Journal. "He is always helping others."

Schieve also claimed to be friends with Renner, who she says is "always calling and saying, 'Hey mayor, what do you need?'"

"There are a few times he’ll post about what he has done or donated toys, but most of it you would never know he is doing," she added of the Avengers alum.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office near Reno was called to Renner's residence on Sunday morning after the snow plowing machine—called a Snowcat—allegedly ran over one of his legs, causing him to lose a large amount of blood, according to TMZ's account of the story. The outlet also reported that a neighbor, who happened to be a doctor, was able to put a tourniquet on Renner's legs until paramedics arrived and transferred him to the hospital.

A source close to the actor also told TMZ that Renner's wounds are "extensive," although there is no additional information about Renner's status at this time.
