It looks like Mayim Bialik's time on Jeopardy! has officially come to an end... sort of.

Uploading a lengthy note to Instagram on December 15, the The Big Bang Theory actress shared that she will no longer be co-hosting the hit quiz show after Sony Pictures (the studio behind the long-running series) made the decision to let her go. Moving forward, former champion Ken Jennings will be the sole host of Jeopardy!.

"As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some Jeopardy! news," she wrote. "Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy!. I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family. For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America's Favorite Quiz Show, thank you. 🙏."

Mayim hasn't been behind the Jeopardy! podium since early May, when she made the decision not to film the final week of season 39 in support of the WGA strike. Still, many viewers were shocked to hear the update on her TV future. Although the Blossom alum chose to turn off the comments section for her Instagram post, fans expressed their sadness over the news on other social media platforms.

"I liked Mayim Bialik as a Jeopardy host," one person wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). "You are a beautiful soul full on grace. ❤️❤️ that path wasn’t meant for you. You have bigger things to do my friend," another commented on a different Instagram post. "Sorry to hear that. You were a great host. ❤️," one more added.

Sony confirmed the news of Mayim's departure from the TV franchise in its own statement — but seemingly left the door open to work with her again in the future.

"We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated Jeopardy!," read the statement, per TVLine. "We are truly grateful for all of Mayim’s contributions to Jeopardy!, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials."

After the death of longtime host Alex Trebek in 2020, Mayim began co-hosting the show on a temporary basis in 2021, sharing duties with Ken. In 2022, Ken and Mayim were named permanent joint hosts of the show. But after Mayim's impromptu exit from Jeopardy! earlier this year, her prospects of returning seemingly appeared more grim after the announcement that Ken would become the host of Celebrity Jeopardy! season 2 and the sole face of the original show when season 40 premiered in September.

Fingers crossed we get to see Mayim back on Jeopardy! for a primetime special soon!
