Jeopardy! is turning the page to a new exciting chapter, but not everyone is on board with the show’s changes — even those happening while the quiz series is on hiatus for the summer.

After Jeopardy! wrapped up season 38 at the end of July, viewers tuned in during the first week of August to discover there was a different repeat schedule this year. Unlike previous summers, the trivia show isn’t airing repeat episodes of tournaments. Instead, Jeopardy! executive producer Michael Davies and his team “handpicked six weeks of some of [their] favorite episodes of the season, featuring [the] closest games, super-champions” and Second Chance competition contestants.

Among the Jeopardy! stars featured in the summer repeat episodes was champion Matt Amodio, who made history with his whopping 38 wins and $1.5 million in total earnings. Though lots of fans are looking forward to seeing him in the 2022 Tournament of Champions, it seems like this isn't the kind of comeback everyone had in mind.

Reacting to seeing the computer science Ph.D. student back on Jeopardy!, many were instantly thrilled to get to relive his victories all over again. “Matt is one of my favorites,” one person wrote on Instagram. “Love you Matt!!! ❤️,” another added. “Matt all the way!” a different fan said.

On the other hand, some folks had different feelings about seeing the Ohio native again.

“I’ve been watching the reruns this week; one rerun was was more entertaining than the others 😉. Hat’s off to Matt but I don’t find him super entertaining,” a follower commented on Instagram. “This is not what I wanted to see during the summer. You need to go back to the old [format] of repeating the tournaments that you’ve always been doing. Not interested at all and will not be watching,” another fan tweeted.

While 16 names have been announced for the inaugural Second Chance competition taking place in October, there still isn’t much known about the upcoming Tournament of Champions. But Jeopardy! fans are expecting Matt to return alongside Amy Schneider, Mattea Roach, Ryan Long and others.

For now, folks can mark the premiere of Jeopardy!’s new season on September 12, followed by the spinoff Celebrity Jeopardy! on September 25. In the meantime, fans can also watch old-school rerun episodes on Pluto.
