Almost one year since Mayim Bialik hosted her first Jeopardy! episode, she’s getting candid about wanting to stay at the lectern for good.

Before kicking off a new week of clues and answers, The Big Bang Theory alum attended the 27th Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday night, and she opened up about what her future on Jeopardy! might look like. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, Mayim revealed that her time on the quiz show is slowing coming to an end and if it were up to her, she would continue standing at the podium. According to the Call Me Kat star, she will be recording new episodes until this spring. But after that, she doesn’t know what will happen.

“Could we see you permanently host?” the outlet asked. “I would love that,” Mayim replied. “I like to say, [I’ve] lived season to season since [I was] about 13 years old. So, what I know is I’m hosting until May 6, and beyond that, hopefully, I’ll know more before May 6.”

As Jeopardy! fans know, Mayim was part of the trivia show’s roster of temporary guest hosts during the second half of season 37. After her episodes aired from late May to mid-June, she was officially announced as the primetime specials host. A short time later, Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings was declared her counterpart following the abrupt exit of former executive producer Mike Richards. Throughout season 38, Mayim and Ken have been working together to host the show while a new permanent host has yet to be named.

Now, the 46-year-old TV personality is raising her hand to become part of the Jeopardy! staff full time. But upon hearing this latest development, viewers voiced their opinions. On one hand, many fans are rooting for Mayim to get the job. “Absolutely would love for her to host the show!” one person wrote on YouTube. “SHE HAS MY VOTE,” another added.

On the other hand, some folks are hoping that Ken will take the permanent position. That said, this probably won’t happen because the Jeopardy! champion already has a job behind the camera as a consulting producer.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Mayim has spoken out about becoming Jeopardy!’s permanent host. When the current season premiered back in September, the neuroscientist openly expressed how much the opportunity meant to her in an interview with Glamour. While Mayim recognized that she has a jam-packed schedule with her Fox sitcom, Call Me Kat, and her mental health podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, she still very much wishes to be a part of Jeopardy!.

“Having a full-time job [on Fox's Call Me Kat] didn't stop me from wanting it. But it really was after those two days [of filming my guest host episodes] that I realized I had never wanted anything more than that job,” she told the outlet. “I'm not a person who leans deeply into intuition. I wish that I was. But this was a case where I intuitively felt something very special had happened for me in my life. From just those two days [taping episodes to air over two weeks]. I said to the crew, ‘I don't want to leave. I really don't want to leave.’”

She added: “There's no other job I would rather have. I love my sitcom work, I do. I love all the other things I do. I love the podcast. But I absolutely have never had a better job.”
