"I remember him saying to me, ‘You’re going to be one of my closest friends,'" Jenny Slate told Vulture about the first time she met her now ex-boyfriend Chris Evans. Slate and Evans began their (very adorable) relationship after getting to know each other on the set of their movie Gifted but broke up earlier this year, which left some to wonder if their reunion on the press tour for the film would be awkward. Turns out, not at all! Captain America and Marcel the Shell seemed to be having a great time together at the Gifted premiere last night, smiling and laughing on the red carpet.
In the same interview with Vulture, Slate said of her post-breakup relationship with Evans: "We’re not on bad terms, but we haven’t really seen each other, spoken a lot...I think it’s probably best. I’d love to be his friend one day, but we threw down pretty hard. No regrets, though. Ever.” If the pictures are to be believed, they are now on very good terms, which is at once wonderful and just a little bit breaking my heart. Like, it's fine that they weren't destined for each other, and I wish them both well—but they were so adorable together on Anna Faris' podcast!
See! You can throw down hard and still be friends without regrets! Life after love is possible. Friendship is a gift, so let us treasure it forever.
But, seriously, let this be a lesson to everyone who has badmouthed their former partner, whether it's a celebrity sharing too much on a chat show or just a petty post on social media. "Well, they have a broken heart" is not an excuse to be nasty. It's completely possible to be friendly—or at least on good enough terms to take a nice photo together—with an ex.
