A Jenny Lind-Inspired Spindle Crib Is the Focal Point in This Calming Nursery
A kid’s crib is almost like an extension of you — it’s their safe space, supports their growth through restful sleep, and, in some cases, is a sentimental gift.
Lindsey Badenhop, a content creator and owner of Milk and Honey Clothier, was looking for a bed to complete her son Theodore’s room in their historic home in Defiance, Ohio. She wanted to find a vintage piece and finally found one on Facebook Marketplace that needed a bit of love and care.
“I was originally searching for an antique or vintage crib or baby bed and always favored the Jenny Lind style,” Badenhop says. “I actually had originally purchased a different crib that included posts for a canopy. It was absolutely darling, but once we decided to repurpose the crib, this one felt a little less daunting.”
A Jenny Lind Crib Look-Alike
Badenhop has always loved non-lacquered wood and “the ‘worn,’ lived-in, antique look,” so Badenhop’s husband spent hours sanding down the Facebook Marketplace crib — spindle by spindle — and then sealed it using a safe wax. They also ensured that the frame was secure for Theodore. “I give [my husband] all the praise for gifting our son a crib that was repurposed with so much love and made just to be his,” Badenhop says. The coloring of the finished wood piece is a soft contrast with the Benjamin Moore “Simply White” walls. Theodore’s new crib is a sentimental gift for his whole family, completing the most tranquil nursery. “This is a piece that I will hold onto forever,” Badenhop says.
