Derek Hough thought his friendship with Jennifer Lopez was over after a dip gone wrong!

The Dancing with the Stars judge, 38, recalled the incident on The Jennifer Hudson Show after host Jennifer Hudson reflected on her own experience being dipped by Hough, which she said is one of her “favorite memories.”

After admitting that the dip is a bit of a “signature” — or at least go-to — move of his, Hough told the host, 42, about one time “several years ago” that the maneuver did not go smoothly.

“There was one time actually, I went salsa dancing with Jennifer Lopez and we’re dancing, we’re having a good night, we’re sweating, the live band’s playing, it’s steamy, it’s going great,” he began, before standing up to demonstrate.

“And I dip her,” he said, dipping an invisible J.Lo. “And I step on her hair, and I pull her back up — but her hair didn’t come back up.”

Hough said that the 54-year-old singer “didn’t miss a beat,” so he was blissfully unaware of his accidental hair-pulling until she confronted him.

“I had no idea what happened,” he told Hudson. “And then later in the night, she goes, ‘Do you know what you did?’ I was like, ‘Show you the time of your life, what's up?’ ”

“And she's like, ‘No, you pulled out my hair,’” Hough said, adding that she held the missing “chunk” of hair as she said it.

The dancer apologized profusely and feared that he had squashed not only Lopez’s hair but also their friendship.

“The next day she's like, ‘Hey do you want to do a project with me?’ ” I was like, ‘Fantastic, ‘cause I thought our friendship was over,’ ” he recalled.

The "On the Floor" singer and pro dancer’s friendship blossomed when they were judges together on the NBC competition show World of Dance, along with Ne-Yo, for its four-season run.

While chatting with Hudson, the DWTS judge also shared more details about his August wedding to his wife Hayley Erbert.

"It was so special. It was such a beautiful, beautiful weekend. It was magical," Hough told host Hudson, revealing that the nuptials unexpectedly started with a “mosh pit” sparked by his best man and fellow dancer Mark Ballas.

“My best man, Mark Ballas, did his best man speech and at the end of it, he was kind of recalling to when we were kids and we used to go to heavy metal and rock concerts,” Hough explained. “And we started out with a big crowd surf to Korn — so that’s how it started.”

Hough continued, “But then my dad was break-dancing at one point, I’m like, ‘What are you doing over there?’ But it was a lot of fun, a lot of dancing — literally ‘til the end of the night. It was awesome.”
