Last Friday afternoon, when news of Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez's alleged break-up caused everyone on the internet to simultaneously scream, my friend sent me a text: "We need a debrief." Hours later, after many debriefs, thousands of Twitter threads, ranting Instagram Stories, and much collective shock, the couple said they were in fact still together. Then Lopez uploaded what is essentially a fancam of herself looking unbothered in sexy swimsuits and Hustlers clips because of course she did.

So while we're not exactly sure what is going on with their relationship, we do know that Lopez is serving and has been especially thriving as spring and summer slowly approach. The shift in season is when both the sun and Lopez's abs come out to play, and of course she's already starting to pull out the white one-piece swimsuit looks. But that's not as unexpected as the absurd sexy-top trend she recently endorsed.

While on set for the photoshoot of her Spring collection for JLo x DSW, Lopez shared some behind-the-scenes footage of her in a tight, black dress with cutouts all over. It was further proof that the cutout trend, which was seen at many digital runways this past season from Area to Khaite, is absolutely here to stay. And upon further investigation, it appears this wasn't the first time she's worn the trend either. Back in January, Lopez was photographed for Elle magazine wearing Prada's wildly popular cut-out knit top.

Some might say this very knit Prada top started the cutout trend that's slowly taking over, but like anything in 2021, coronavirus also played a role (when doesn't she?). As we've recently reported, vaccine tops are the new going-out tops, with thousands of shoppers looking to purchase tops that expose just enough skin for the highly anticipated jab. Tops with excessive cutouts are also just sexy in general and feel like the perfect storm for a post-pandemic world. You can get your shot in one and also wear it out to the club. Chances are, the second we all get the option to return to normal, we'll want to be exposing as much skin as possible after more than a year of living in our sweats from our bed.

While all cutout tops are sexy, not all of them have to be as cutout as Lopez's. Of course she would find the sexiest version of the trend and put us all to shame. But if you want to indulge in one of 2021's biggest trends, there's a wide array of cutouts to choose from at Nordstrom or Amazon for as low as $15. Some feature a simple, subtle one at the collar bones, where others appear to be hanging on by a thread with cutouts everywhere you look.

But the best thing about this trend is that truly anything goes as long as a little bit of your skin is exposed in an unexpected way. And while we're not necessarily trying to stir the pot, we must admit they do make a very good revenge top, too, if you need one.
