Jennifer Lopez Reveals Why Her Massive Makeup Line Doesn't Have a Foundation

Backstage after one of her "All I Have" shows in Las Vegas, Jennifer Lopez shared why her 70-piece Inglot collaboration is missing a foundation.

Starting Thursday, April 26, you'll be able to cover most of your face in Jennifer Lopez-approved makeup with the launch of her Inglot collaboration. As I mentioned in Allure's exclusive on the big news, the 70-piece collection the singer teamed up with the popular Polish cosmetic company includes bronzers and highlighters for recreating the J.Lo Glow, a mascara for achieving her lush lashes for yourself, and nude glosses for completing the complete Jennifer Lopez look. You'll even be able to choose from dozens of shadows, blushes, and face powders. However, the new line is missing one major product for giving your makeup routine the full J.Lo treatment: a foundation.

After watching the singer perform for a full three hours for her "All I Have" show in Las Vegas, I was invited to an afterparty in her dressing room. (Casual.) Here, she mentioned why a foundation was missing from her extensive new line, which also includes eyeliner, false lashes, and brow filler.

"This was a color capsule I did for them, but I'd love to eventually get into skin and complexion," she told a group of editors and influencers with her makeup artist of 18 years, Scott Barnes, by her side. "I'd rather take it slow, do it right, and let people know that they can count on me that when I put something out I'm not just putting my name on it. I want the product to stand for that." Barnes also added that the foundation would surely give you a dewy complexion and Lopez won't release it until she thinks it's perfect.

Earlier that day at a master class, Barnes first mentioned the same reasoning, noting that it took Lopez almost a year to perfect the products in the new line. "She was bringing them in as she was working on them, and she was like 'What do you think of this?' and I would give her my feedback and some things she'd listen to, and some things, she'd be like I like it like this, and I respect that," Barnes said. Also, with beauty brands in the past launching only a dozen shades of foundation at a time in a limited range, you can expect Lopez to take the same route as Rihanna. Lopez is taking her time to make sure the formula is just right and thoughtfully create an inclusive shade range.

Lopez applied this same philosophy when creating the selection of nude lipsticks in her new line. "I don't think there's one shade of nude," she told us at the afterparty. "I think there's a different shade of nude for everybody that really makes you look beautiful."

One major product that is included in the massive J.Lo x Inglot collection is a customizable magnetic palette. Lopez shared why this versatile option was so important to include. "You really can create whatever you want," she explained. I love all kinds of makeup, from high-end to low-end, from Tom Ford down to whatever you can buy at Kmart, but there's nothing that makes me crazier than buying a very expensive eye shadow [palette] and there's only one little color in it you use all the time, and the other ones just never get touched. You buy that $180 palette for that one color."

Again, you'll be able to shop the full Jennifer Lopez x Inglot collection starting Thursday, April 26 on jenniferlopezinglot.com, inglotusa.com, in Inglot stores, and in select Macy’s locations.
