The singer was crushed after her first split with Ben Affleck.

Jennifer Lopez is opening up about the hardest heartbreak she's ever endured.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the singer recalled her first split with Ben Affleck ahead of her forthcoming album This Is Me... Now, which was announced on Nov. 25, nearly two decades after her third studio album, This Is Me... Then was released.

Lopez and Affleck's first engagement took place during the making of her third album in 2002. The duo ultimately split in 2004 and rekindled their relationship in 2021, before tying the knot in 2022.

"That album, This Is Me... Then, really captured a time where I fell in love with the love of my life. And I just, it's all right there on the record," Lopez recalled. "Every single song we wrote, me writing 'Dear Ben,' it was such a special moment in time to have captured."

Unfortunately, Lopez and Affleck's eventual breakup made it difficult to perform the songs off of that album. "I wouldn't even perform these records. It was so painful after we broke up," she told Lowe. "Once we called off that wedding 20 years ago, it was the biggest heartbreak of my life, and I honestly felt like I was going to die."

She noted that the breakup made it hard for her to fully make music like she did back when she first started dating Affleck, stating, "I didn't make music in that way that I did in 2002 until now... It set me on a spiral for the next 18 years where I just couldn't get it right. But now, 20 years later, it does have a happy ending. It has the most, would never happen in Hollywood ending."

With songs like "Dear Ben Pt. II," "Midnight Trip to Vegas," and "Greatest Love Story Never Told," the album appears to be another compilation of songs that capture the love she has for her new hubby.

This Is Me... Now is set to be released in 2023.
