Jennifer Lopez’s MTV VMAs Performance Is Full of Glittering Fashion Hits
Jennifer Lopez did a rendition of her greatest hits with some stellar performance looks at the VMAs.
Did you hear the words “my love don’t cost a thing” echoing throughout the neighborhood just a few moments ago? Well, you wouldn’t be hard-pressed to overhear those familiar lyrics: Tonight, millions of television screens tuned into Jennifer Lopez giving the performance of a lifetime at the VMAs. After all, Lopez was due to give a historical performance: She was receiving the monumental MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and was the first Latina artist to ever receive the honor as well.
One of the best parts? There were some memorable looks to go with it. The entertainer kept it Jenny to the core and opened up the rendition of her greatest hits resembling a sassy deity in a fully-gilded Versace robe. The choice was not a surprise, either: Lopez has long had a close friendship with Donatella Versace and, just a few hours ago, she wore a gown by the label on the red carpet.
Other standout moments from JLo included her wearing a completely strappy barely-there bodysuit and a white fur coat, surrounded by backup dancers in metallic royal blue puffers. It was a scene that recollected her outerwear in the 2001 music video “All I Have.” Though, for a true "Jenny from the Block" moment, she stepped out in a completely bedazzled gold tracksuit, a look she wore to reunite with her longtime noughties collaborator Ja Rule onstage.
Of course, Lopez hasn’t forgotten where she has come from, either: She wore the look with a 6 train replica in the background, a reference to the subway she used to take to from her Bronx home to Manhattan, and also the name for her first album, On the 6. As for the footwear? Well, Lopez elevated the modest Timberland boots by covering them completely in crystals. And don’t worry, all of this footage was captured: Her beau Alex Rodriguez lovingly filmed the concert from his seat. Talk about a night to remember.
