Jennifer Lopez Makes a Case for Fashion’s Most Risqué Pants

Jennifer Lopez captures her audience’s—and A-Rod’s—attention with her chaps.

Chaps, the bare-butt pants beloved by cowboys and motorcyclists, have always had a special place in the hearts of pop stars. A burned-into-the-brain example is Christina Aguilera, who wore them in her transformative “Dirrty” music video in 2002. The latest to join the chaps-wearing crew is Jennifer Lopez. The entertainer performed this past weekend in Los Angeles dressed in a fire engine red leather body suit cinched at the waist with a utility belt, complete with fishnets, and silver sequined chaps. Lopez gyrated to Cardi B’s “Money Moves” in the glinting set and was later greeted by her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez.

Chaps have had their moment in the spotlight on the runway lately, too. At Y/ Project, the same label that released thigh-high UGGs last week, chaps made an appearance for Fall 2016. A few years before that, it was Versace who revived the look—the risqué trousers popped up at the house’s Fall 2014 men’s show.

All chaps aside, Lopez has had her fair share of wild performance look. At the start of her residency in Las Vegas in 2016, the singer sported a feathered white coat boasting 260,000 Swarovski crystals, as well as a bomber jacket embellished with the name of her hometown, the “Bronx.” Now, let’s see what captivating new outfit J.Lo brings to the stage next.
