Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have broken up. No, really. The couple, who have been together since 2017 and engaged since 2019, have officially called it quits, they both confirmed this week.

On Thursday, J.Lo liked a very specific post on Instagram by author Reuben Holmes, aka r.h. Sin, who shared the following words in a photo:

Don't make her think you care. when you have never given a f--k about her."

Alongside the post, he wrote, "Don't let them manipulate you. How many times have you been told 'I love you' by someone who has continued to treat you like s--t?"

Fans noticed pretty quickly that J.Lo was one of the now 50,000-plus followers who liked the post:

"We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so," the two wrote in an exclusive joint statement to TODAY this week. "We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support."

Rumors about the couple's split first came out in March, but at the time, they denied any reports of a split:

"All the reports are inaccurate," they said in a joint statement. "We are working through some things."

Although the couple did not confirm these initial reports, sources began to leak other alleged information about the couple:

"Jennifer's friends for a long time had warned her that A.Rod was not a good guy and that he was using her to clean up his tarnished image after his many scandals," a source told E!. "For years, Jennifer did not listen to the warnings, but now she believes them."
