Jennifer Lopez Just Wore Another Pair of Confusing Pants

I don’t think Jennifer Lopez knows what pants are. And if I were Jennifer Lopez, I probably wouldn’t either. The woman looks so good pantless (see: her recent swimsuit selfies, the Super Bowl halftime show, and the entirety of Hustlers), she doesn’t really need a pair of pants to tie her down. Whenever she does wear a pair though, she definitely makes sure they’re worth talking about.

Back in 2018, Jennifer Lopez made us all reconsider what exactly constitutes as pants by wearing a pair of Versace boots that looked like jeans. Later that year she made us question our animosity for low-rise jeans and their penchant for exposing our thong by wearing a pair that were part pant, part g-string. She hasn’t re-worn either recently but as we’re learning now, 2020 looks nothing like 2018 and 2019 and apparently, neither do its pants.

While on set for World of Dance, Lopez wore a pair of Brandon Maxwell linen pants that have a shirt tail attached. They look like I’d imagine a matching button-down shirt-and-pants outfit would look like if it was cut perfectly in half with a precise knife, leaving the part of the shirt that falls below your waist still attached near the belt loops. Without a matching top, the shirt-tail pants look almost as weird as they sound: like a super short mini skirt styled on top of work-ready trousers.

They’re confusing, but they definitely don’t have the internet up in arms like her viral Natasha Zinko thong jeans did. That’s probably because they’re unconventional but still, like everything Brandon Maxwell designs, they’re pretty polished. Of course, this is Jennifer Lopez though, and she paired hers with a crop top.

Whie shirt-tail pants aren’t necessarily a trend yet, controversial pants, from low-rise to baggy, are definitely everywhere now. And considering so many of us are stuck indoors for the foreseeable future, it’s the perfect time to wear something impractical and confusing and not care what anyone else has to say about it. Ideally, our selfies should be masterpieces like Lopez’s too, and coincidentally, it looks like we’ve got time to perfect that too.
