As if you needed any more proof that curtain bangs are having a moment, Jennifer Lopez just signed off on TikTok’s favorite hair trend. The 51-year-old megastar teamed up with celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton—the man behind all her flawless hair transformations the past few years, who also just so happens to do Ariana Grande’s hair—for her latest look.

“Jlo got bangs today,” Appleton wrote on Instagram on October 13 to debut the shaggy, effortless style, which as the name suggests, frames the face perfectly, much as a curtain does a window. J.Lo paired them with honey blonde highlights, striking blue eye shadow, and—more likely than not—a face covered in Lopez’s new venture, JLo Beauty.

The singer was also photographed with her fresh look while on a date with fiancé Alex Rodriguez later that night. She paired her monochromatic blue outfit with a black mask, matching Rodriguez. (Safety is chic.)

It’s unclear how long the change is going to stick around, though, because according to Appleton, her bangs are actually the result of some extremely convincing clip-ins. He shared some details on the look during a masterclass for ColorWow the following day.

“The secret to a good curtain bang is closing the forehead shape,” he said. “I like to use ColorWow's Raise the Root volumizing spray on dry hair, then grab a hair dryer and a big round brush to pull the hair forward and down, while hitting it with heat for a couple of seconds.” This technique, he says, will help your bangs act more like a curtain to frame your face.

Looking at the photo of J.Lo, it’s not hard to see why curtain bangs have spiked as one of the most popular haircuts this year. Curtain bangs are extremely versatile, blending perfectly with straight, wavy, and curly textures. (Just look at the examples here for proof.)

The best part? They’re super easy to manage. “They don’t take on the commitment of adding a full-throttle bang to your hair,” celebrity hairstylist Alex Brown told Glamour. “They’re less work and are so easy to grow out.”

That’s good if you’re someone like Jennifer Lopez, who is all about experimenting when it comes to her hair. Case in point: Back in March she made the case for bringing back chunky highlights—yes, that very style you had back in 2002.

So yeah, if TikTok and Bella Hadid have made you consider giving curtain bangs a shot, let Lopez be that final push. You won’t be sorry.
