She retired her Sambas for this $55 style.

For years I avoided wearing sneakers with anything other than athleisure out of fear that their presence would bring the entire outfit down (yes, my feet often hurt), but Jennifer Lawrence made me change my tune. No matter what she’s wearing on top, she’s almost always rocking sneakers on bottom, pairing them with everything including luxe leather bags and full-length trench coats, billowing maxi skirts, and casual staples. It’s proof they’re all you need to make any outfit instantly cooler.

While Lawrence seems to typically reach for a pair of Adidas Sambas, the cool-girl sneaker everyone including Katie Holmes, Irina Shayk, and Rihanna has worn, she’s recently swapped out her tried-and-true pair for another classic style: Vans Authentic Sneakers.

Vans, which has been around since the ‘60s, is famous for its slip-on style that even Mary-Kate Olsen has worn, but Lawrence’s black lace-up sneakers might be my favorite from the brand. The timeless style is super minimalist, with a flat, streamlined silhouette, black canvas exterior, and contrasting white stitching that goes with just about everything in your wardrobe; Lawrence herself wore them three times in one week with sweatpants, a leather jacket, and even straight-leg trousers and a matching blazer. And while their versatility makes them a closet essential, their $55 price tag makes them an immediate add-to-cart.

While her black pair is still available at Shopbop (though sold out pretty much everywhere else), you can grab the more cushioned version of the shoe for $75 at Nordstrom. And if you’re looking for that same silhouette in different colorways, the Authentic sneaker is available in 10 looks at Zappos.

There, the sneaker boasts nearly 2,000 perfect five-star ratings, with shoppers raving that the style is “dynamic” and stylish with support that feels “similar to orthopedic shoes.” “The more you wear these shoes, the more they mold to your foot and the more comfortable they become,” said one fan, while a 53-year-old customer said they’re the “only sneakers” they can walk “for miles in.”

And as far style goes, fans say that they keep buying the shoe because it goes with everything, with one person even writing that the “black is especially versatile.” “Nothing looks as timeless and nothing feels as comfortable,” gushed someone else, adding that they can be your everyday sneakers and even “your dress-up shoes.”

Lawrence convinced me Vans’ timeless Authentic Sneakers might be the next cool-girl shoe — fortunately, they’re just $55. Shop more colors and classic Vans styles, below.
