Jennifer Lawrence is the latest A-list celebrity opening up about her own personal politics ahead of the 2020 election on November 3.

She appeared on the Apparently Not podcast and talked about how she's evolved in her beliefs over the years and why she's speaking out about President Donald Trump. “I grew up Republican. My first time voting, I voted for John McCain. I was a little Republican,” she said, per People, of the 2012 election that saw Barack Obama elected to a second term. Lawrence said her Kentucky upbringing allowed her to “see the fiscal benefits of some of the Republican policies,” but also recognize “the social issues weren't in line with [her] views.”

But as she's gotten older, the actor (now 30) says she “changed [her] politics based on the things [she] learned.” But what really made a difference was the election of Donald Trump in 2016. (She does not say who she voted for in that election.)

“This is an impeached president who's broken many laws and has refused to condemn white supremacy, and it feels like there has been a line drawn in the sand. I don't think it’s right,” she said. “It just changes things for me. I don't want to support a president who supports white supremacists.” She also compared our current political situation to the days of the Obama presidency when you could “go days, maybe weeks, without thinking about the president because everything would generally be okay.”

In 2020, Jennifer Lawrence is publicly endorsing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. “Voting is the foundation of our democracy and our freedom,” she told V Magazine.

She continued, "I would consider this upcoming election the most consequential of our lifetime. I’m voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this year because Donald Trump has and will continue to put himself before the safety and well-being of America. He does not represent my values as an American, and most importantly as a human being.”

And with that, Katniss has spoken.
