The singer honored the late minister and activist on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Every year on the third Monday of January, we honor the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and his role in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 1960s, until his assassination in 1968, and his long-lasting legacy.

The federal holiday coincides with King's birthday, which is Jan. 15.

Many people shared tributes to the civil rights icon, including actress and singer Jennifer Hudson.

Hudson posted a message in honor of King on Instagram along with a photo of herself at a very significant location–King's birth home.

The 41-year-old began her message by saying, "When it comes to a giant like Martin Luther King Jr., words never seem enough to capture the magnitude of his legacy."

She continued, describing her experience visiting King's home: "A couple years ago, while filming Respect, I got to sit on the steps of Dr. King’s birth home. I sat there soaking in the significance of that place, and I imagined him sitting on these very steps as a child, unaware of the impact he would have."

Hudson ended the note by telling people to follow King's example to make a better world for the future, writing, "As we honor him today, let’s continue his dream, raising up more Dr. Kings that make this world a better place to live !!"

Many people shared their own experiences visiting King's birth home in the comments.

One person wrote, "I’ve been there and though we were on the wrong day for an inside tour of the home, just knowing the significance of the home that this great man was born and nurtured was a spiritual experience. We owe so much gratitude.❤️🙏🏽."

"I had the honor to visit his birth home. I loved the place and honored to be there. Dr.King a legacy that is respected and valued. Thank you," said another.
