If I could turn back time and have anything from the '80s, I would take Jennifer Grey's hair — and the way-too-cool wrestling shoes she wore in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Alas, after 40 years, Nike no longer makes those shoes. As for the hair? The owner of that mane is now 64, and like the rest of us, she's not immune to aging — or thinning hair. When Grey's ponytail started getting smaller during the pandemic, her stylist introduced her to Danish haircare brand Harklinikken, and she hasn't looked back.

Quick Overview

"I never really had to worry about my hair," Grey told Women’s Health. "It was curly and I had a lot of it. I could wear it naturally and people would say, 'I love your hair.' It never occurred to me that it would change."

When it did change, one of the products she started using was the Harklinikken Stabilizing Scalp Shampoo, which has a spot on our list of best shampoos for thinning hair. Yahoo Life spoke with Dr. Glenn Vallecillos, a board-certified plastic surgeon who has seen the product in action.

"In our practice, we have seen great success with the Harklinikken line, which addresses specific types of hair loss by offering customized, targeted and responsive treatments, based on the patient's unique history, scalp profile and hair-loss circumstances," Vallecillos says.

Got an oily scalp or dandruff? How about dry, dull or color-treated hair? This shampoo uses burdock root and glycosides to stabilize the scalp’s microbiome and promote hair growth.

The shampoo aims to remove oil, product buildup and surface pollution without disrupting the scalp’s barrier. It's designed to stabilize the scalp’s microbiome, promoting optimal conditions for hair growth while reducing the risk of hair thinning and scalp issues by balancing excess sebum. It also reinvigorates and strengthens hair, helping restore its natural thickness and vibrancy.

"I don’t want to mess with something that's working," said the Dirty Dancing star — and who can blame her? "People have been commenting, saying how amazing my hair looks," she said. "But the best part is that I don’t need to do too much to it anymore. Now, when I wear it just curly right out of the shower, it looks better than it did before because it's not all shredded and raggedy at the edges."

In addition to the shampoo, Grey uses three other Harklinikken products to help keep her hair full.

Harklinikken's conditioner aims to make hair softer, smoother and more elastic.

"It was pretty dramatic — and I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw the improvement," Grey said of her hair transformation. "At first, I thought I was imagining things — my hair couldn't have grown that much so fast. And the hair that grew back was much thicker and [the] quality was much better."

This elixir is customized to each person's needs and requires a hair assessment. The nutrient-rich serum is applied directly on the scalp every night to nourish the skin and wake up hair follicles.

Ultimately, Grey trusted the process: "My hair felt very dry, but I followed the instructions," she said. "I was doing the system with a girlfriend, and we'd check in on one another and both of us felt like our hair was getting a little bit better; a little bit thicker."

This leave-in conditioner helps hydrate, reduce breakage, improve texture and protect against environmental stressors. Free of silicone, it uses natural botanicals to restore strands' strength.
