Jennifer Garner’s daughter will go to school on one condition: she wants a delicious, steaming cup of hot chocolate in return. Finally, a story about a quid pro quo that won’t lead to an impeachment trial!
The actress, who shares kids Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel with ex Ben Affleck, shared an old bargaining note from one of her daughters on Instagram. “I know that I am willing to go to school, but I want something,” the letter, written in pink ink, read. “Maybe hot chocolate? Yes or no.”

“You drive a hard bargain, Missy, but Yes. Definitely yes,” Garner added along with the hashtag “wayyyy back Wednesday.”

The tough negotiator even garnered approval from celebrity chef Ina Garten. “Hot chocolate can solve many of the problems of the world,” she commented. “It shouldn’t be optional — it should be required!” Hear, hear!
This note still leaves us with questions, though. Which of her daughters wrote it? And, more importantly, does she take her hot cocoa with whipped cream or marshmallows? Or both?
Motivating kids to leave the house in the morning isn’t always as easy as offering up a cup of hot chocolate, though. Last weekend, Saturday Night Live struck a nerve with parents everywhere when they aired a spoof on a Macy’s commercial that highlighted just how damn difficult it can be to get kids dressed for the day, especially in colder months.
To be fair, it’s not always easy for parents, either. Last month, Garner proved as much when she shared an all-too-relatable photo of herself trying to get her daughter to school on time. “She barely made it to the bus on time, but at least her mother kept it classy,” she captioned the picture, which featured herself wearing a bathrobe and slippers.

The lesson here? Nothing’s ever going to be perfect. So, stay calm, drink more hot chocolate, and enjoy the little moments while you can.
