Jennifer Garner Has No Idea What She Was Thinking at the Oscars Either

'What am I doing?'

There's nothing quite like being turned into a viral meme—just ask Jennifer Garner. The actress found herself being GIF-ed into eternity earlier this month, after cameras at the 2018 Academy Awards caught her seeming to suddenly remember something midclap. One of the first tweets about the clip, captioned "What realization did Jennifer Garner just come to?" has received more than 32,000 retweets and nearly 170,000 likes since the Oscars, on March 4. Garner even responded to the meme the next day, joining her fans in trying to figure out what she was thinking in that moment. Her suggestions, posted on her Instagram Story, include, "Congrats to Shape of Water...maybe I should date a fish!" "Hey Jimmy Kimmel, what's in your wallet? Wait, where's my wallet?" and "Can't wait to work with Lena Dunham! Wait, did I sign a nudity waiver?"

It's been almost two weeks since the Oscars, but, as Garner revealed during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, she still has no idea what she was thinking during that meme-worthy moment. "I can't even look at it. I can't. It's too embarrassing," she said when DeGeneres replayed the clip. "What! What is happening!" The 45-year-old also admitted that she has "no control" over her facial expression: "What am I doing?!"

Garner said that although she typically avoids reading about herself on the Internet, it's nearly impossible to do when your mysterious reaction shot has gone fully viral. "I mean, I started getting texts, as you can imagine, people saying, you know, 'What were you thinking? What's happening?'" she said. "I try really hard not to see myself online, but she was a little unavoidable." The mom of three joked that she has only "regret, regret, regret" for the moment. "I don't know why—what is wrong with me!" she said. "I wanna just punch her in the face!"

Sadly for Jen, no matter how much she racks her brain, she can't figure out what went down in those fateful five seconds. "I wish I did. I wish I had a better story about it!" she said, then added, "I mean, it might happen any minute. I might just be sitting here, and just be like…!"'
