Jennifer Garner Reveals to Jimmy Fallon How She and Her Daughter Were Nearly Lost at Sea

In the game of parenting, you win some and you lose some. Jennifer Garner definitely lost during a kayaking trip with her daughter, and she’s not ashamed to admit it.

Garner briefly posted about the experience on Instagram earlier this month, but fans have been waiting for the deets. Luckily, Garner stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and recounted the harrowing (and laughable) tale of how she and her 12-year-old daughter, Violet, were nearly lost at sea.

It all started when Violet, aka Garner’s mini-me, was assigned a report on Sweden. So, her mom decided they should visit the country for a quick trip. Sounds great, right? Well, it was—until they went kayaking.

As the Peppermint star remembered, “We [did] the big island in record time…and then they said, ‘This [part] will take you ten minutes.’ We did it, except an hour later, we were still not back. And not only that, all of the sudden there were huge bridges going over, big boats, and it went from very small to quite wide.” Uh-oh.

She went on, “And then Violet said, ‘Mom, there’s a stoplight in the water’…And so then, we start feeling a current pulling us to the ocean! I’m with my baby and I was just like, ‘La, la, la, let’s sing Mamma Mia!, we’re in Sweden!’”

Ultimately, Garner and her eldest daughter were able to call for help and were told to turn around. Finally, a “blonde human with the sun behind him like a halo” named Matteus arrived to rescue them, and the rest is family vacation history.

It seems that “just keep paddling” isn’t always the best idea.
