Jennifer Garner is proud of her kids no matter what, but in a new interview, the actor admits it’s hard for her to let go and give them the freedom to carve their own paths.

Garner shares Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex-husband Ben Affleck.

“They’re really solid right now,” Garner told People of her children. “I’m just watching them in this new phase of life where they’re figuring out who they’re going to be and what they’re going to study. And I’m so interested in them. All the time. I’m interested in everything about them.”

Violet, her oldest, is getting ready to start college, and Garner said in a recent appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark, that the teen is “totally in charge” and has the entire process under control.

Still, the 13 Going on 30 star told People it’s “so hard” not to tell her children which careers to lean toward. “I mean, my parents did too, and I’m so amazed by that. I have a really hard time not saying, ‘This is what I see you as,’ and ‘I think you should,’ ” she said. “I really have to sit on my hands.”

Garner and Affleck, who split in 2015 and divorced in 2018, share custody of their children, and are often seen supporting them at school and sporting events together. Affleck is also stepdad to now-wife Jennifer Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme, 16, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
