The actress also received a special gift from her hometown.

Drew Barrymore went above and beyond to celebrate pal Jennifer Garner's birthday.

Garner, who turned 51 on April 17, celebrated her birthday with a guest appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.

"We mentioned that it's your birthday today. Let's kick it up a notch and let's get a change of birthday scenery around her. Hit it!" Barrymore exclaimed before fireworks appeared on the screen and balloons fell from the ceiling.

The two friends hugged as a crew member handed Garner a colorful bouquet.

"You're bananas," Garner told Barrymore, to which the talk show host responded, "I'm so bananas."

However, the biggest surprise didn't come from Barrymore.

"This surprise is really meaningful and it comes from your hometown in Charleston, West Virginia," Barrymore said. "From here on out, April 17th will be known as 'Jennifer Garner Day' in Charleston."

Upon hearing the news, Garner got teary and gasped.

But that wasn't all as Barrymore continued: "The mayor herself Amy Goodwin is here to tell you about it" as the mayor revealed that Garner was being honored with a key to the city.

Before the birthday celebrations, Garner had told Barrymore that she still has strong emotional ties to her hometown.

"If you're from the mountains, you gotta go back to the mountains," said Garner, speaking on visiting her family often.

She added, "I grew up in a town that is…where community matters. Where if my mom wasn't home after school—she was a teacher—that I went to Marge Aldridge, our neighbor, and she had the key. And if she didn't, I would go to the Moores and I would go into their pantry and help myself."

The actress continued, "You were looked after by people. If you were doing something wild, there was a grownup to grab you by the shoulder and put their finger under your nose and say, 'Uh-uh, we don't do that.'"
