Jennifer Garner Just Put Her Own Spin on One of 2023’s Hottest Denim Trends

I’m in something of a fashion rut. Working from home mixed with cooler temps means I’m basically always in sweats, which is just fine — until the weekend comes, and I have no idea what to do with the rest of the clothes in my closet. This is when I begin to outsource, looking towards my favorite fashion people and celebs for ideas — and right now, Jennifer Garner is giving me major late-fall fashion inspo.

The actress kicked off the week by wearing a classic turtleneck with a knit mini skirt and sheer black tights, and, immediately, I was looking to see where I could get something similar. But then yesterday, she one-upped herself, wearing the outfit I want to spend the rest of fall and winter in. While out in New York, Garner put her own spin on one of this year’s hottest trends when she rocked a denim dress with a super sleek, straight-lined silhouette. She finished off the look with mocha pumps that featured gold-chain detailing and a matching chocolate cropped leather jacket.

Denim is always “in,” but it’s been especially trendy this year. And people aren’t just wearing jeans; they’re opting for maxi skirts, mini dresses, and overalls. Garner just joined Dua Lipa in wearing denim in one of the most unconventional ways: in the form of a full-length dress. The fitted piece featured a chic square neckline and a calf-length hem that made it surprisingly perfect for fall, and while Garner opted for a sophisticated pair of pumps, I can’t help but imagine it with timeless knee-high boots (it’s only getting colder after all).

But the look wouldn’t have been so groundbreaking if it weren’t for the accompanying coat that played with proportions. Her dress was long and fitted, while her collared leather jacket was slightly cropped and boxy. It added a little volume to the otherwise streamlined look — plus some much-needed warmth. While the dress had me thinking about how it would look with different shoes, this short jacket was something I immediately wanted to pair with pretty much everything in my closet. It toes the line between casual and elevated, meaning that it can be worn with laidback jeans or your favorite date-night dress.
