The star dazzled at the first of two ceremonies.

The New York ceremony in honor of the winners of the 2023 GLAAD Media Awards will be held on May 13, 2023. About half of the winners were announced at the organization's Los Angeles awards ceremony on March 30, 2023, and the remaining half will be shared in May.

Sasha Colby of RuPaul's Drag Race helped announced the nominees for the GLAAD Media Awards in January 2023. GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis told Deadline that the awards are more important than ever following the nominee announcement.

"With violence, harmful legislation, false rhetoric and other attacks on the LGBTQ community continuing to escalate, it’s more crucial than ever that our community remains visible and included in the stories that the world sees in film, television, music, journalism, and other forms of media," Ellis said.

She continued, "This year we have more nominees than ever before to represent immensely impactful projects that entertain, educate, and grow acceptance of LGBTQ people. From new stories that debunk lies about transgender youth to kids and family programming which allows all families to be represented, this year’s nominated media images are beloved by audiences and are creating real change."

With that in mind, GLAAD announced a massive 295 nominees from 33 categories of performance art.

The Los Angeles ceremony also honored a few musicians and artists who have been strong allies to the LGBTQ community: Christina Aguilera received the Advocate for Change Award, Jeremy Pope received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award and Bad Bunny received the Vanguard Award.

What are the GLAAD Media Awards?

Held each year in honor of productions that positively represent the LGBTQ community, the awards are "the largest, most legendary LGBTQ celebration in the world in 2023," according to GLAAD. "Honoring those in the media who have shown exemplary achievements for fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of the LGBTQ community and the issues that affect our lives."

What did Jennifer Coolidge win at the GLAAD Media Awards?

Jennifer Coolidge made a surprise appearance at the Los Angeles event on March 30. “Here I am again surrounded by gays,” she said, referencing her famous line from the second season of White Lotus. “We all have the right to be who we are and to love the people we love,” she added.

The audience was also treated to a Best in Show reunion when Jane Lynch joined the Legally Blonde actress on stage to present her with the social impact award.
