Jennifer Aniston Says Wearing a Face Mask ‘Really Shouldn’t Be a Debate’

Jennifer Aniston is the latest celebrity speaking out to implore fans to wear a face mask, as many states are seeing another spike in coronavirus cases.

The Friends star took to her Instagram feed to speak directly to her more than 34 million followers about masks, a topic that has become politicized in communities across America. “I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable,” she wrote. “But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down... jobs are being lost... health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion. And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough.”

She continued, “I really do believe in the basic goodness of people so I know we can all do this 🥰 BUT still, there are many people in our country refusing to take the necessary steps to flatten the curve, and keep each other safe. People seem worried about their ‘rights being taken away’ by being asked to wear a mask. This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of peoples’ lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate 🙏🏼 If you care about human life, please... just #wearadamnmask 😷 and encourage those around you to do the same ❤️”

Another beloved television star, Patrick Dempsey, brought back his Grey's Anatomy character, Derek “McDreamy" Shepherd, in another post about wearing face masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. “It’s a Beautiful Day to Save Lives. #WearAMask #COVID19 #YourActionsSaveLives,” he wrote. (That's one of Derek's most famous lines.)

Aniston and Dempsey aren't speaking out based just on their personal opinions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing a cloth facial covering. “CDC recommends all people two years of age and older wear a cloth face covering in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain,” the CDC website reads

Wear a mask, everybody. Rachel Green and McDreamy agree. You can find one to buy here
