Jennifer Aniston Just Confirmed That The Friends Reunion Is Officially Happening

They'll be there for you ... officially on HBO Max. After rumors and speculation about a possible Friends reunion before the series heads to streaming nirvana on HBO Max, Jennifer Aniston, along with the entire cast, confirmed that they are reuniting for a special reunion episode. In an Instagram post that has fans whipped into a frenzy, she simply wrote, "It's happening..." Short and sweet, the star broke the news of we were all hoping for.

Deadline reported that the cast would reunite for an "untitled unscripted special for HBO Max." Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer are set to return to the place where it all happened: Stage 24 on the Warner Bros. Studio lot for the "cast reunion special."

All 236 episodes of Friends, along with the special, will be available when HBO Max launches this May. Sources told Deadline that each of the stars will receive something in the "$3 million-$4 million range" for the special, which they're all executive producing, as well. That number is not confirmed.

"Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library," Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max and president, TBS, TNT, and truTV said. "I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends — and audiences — gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans."

HBO paid $425 million for the streaming rights to the series, which was previously on Netflix. The special coincides with the show's 25th anniversary as well as its move to the new streaming platform.
