The one where he was almost her lobster …

Friends: The Reunion has officially been released, and with it a revelation 27-ish years in the making: Ross and Rachel were almost an item IRL.  David Schwimmer admitted that he "had a major crush on Jen [Aniston]" during the sitcom's first season.

Aniston quickly added, "and it was reciprocated."

"At some point we were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship," Schwimmer continued. "We never crossed that boundary."

Ross and Rachel's relationship quickly transcended Jennifer and David's.

"I remember saying one time to David, 'It's going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is going to be on national television,'" Aniston recalled during the reunion. "Sure enough, first time we kissed was in that coffee shop. We just channeled all our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel."

Schwimmer was surprised that the rest of the cast hadn't caught on, considering how affectionate he and Aniston were on set.

"I thought back on the very first year or two, you know when we had breaks from rehearsal, there were moments when we would cuddle on the couch or something," he remembered.

"We would spoon and fall asleep on the couch," Aniston added.

"How did not everyone know we were crushing on each other?" Schwimmer wondered.

Ah, Classic Ross. Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry were quick to tell their castmate that everyone did in fact know. "We knew for sure," Cox said.

Imagine a universe in which Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston never dated … because of Ross.
