Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler's New Comedy 'Murder Mystery' Breaks Netflix Record

From ELLE

Some good news: Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, Hollywood faves, have reunited for a new comedy, Murder Mystery, streaming now on Netflix. Some even better news (for Netflix, at least)? Murder Mystery has only been out for a few days and has already had a record-breaking opening weekend.

Murder Mystery is your classic whodunit film, in which an NYC cop (Adam Sandler) and his wife (Jennifer Aniston) finally embark on their long-promised European trip. Aniston meets a wealthy man who invites the lovely couple aboard his yacht for a family gathering, but things go south when someone dies and the couple become the prime suspects in the murder.

It launched on Friday, June 14, but on Tuesday Netflix revealed that Murder Mystery was viewed by nearly 31 million households in its first three days, making history for the biggest opening weekend Netflix has seen to date. The film was viewed by 13,374,914 accounts in the US and Canada, and 17,494,949 worldwide, the streaming giant revealed in a tweet.

Murder Mystery's record-breaking opening weekend also puts the film on track to break Netflix's first-week record, which was previously set by the Sandra Bullock–starring horror film Bird Box, released last December. At the time, Netflix revealed Bird Box was watched by 45,037,125 accounts in its first week, breaking the record for best first week views-and leading to a giant number of holiday viewers creating hilarious memes about the film.

Murder Mystery is streaming now on Netflix.
