Getting your first car is a rite of passage. Some people save up to buy that first car, others get a hand-me-down. And almost all of us knew a lucky 16-year-old or two whose parents bought them a brand-new car as their first set of wheels.

This is hardly unusual—there were probably 16-year-olds who got a Ford Model T a century ago from their wealthy parents as they drove off to see the Guy Lombardo concert. It's nothing new.

The point is, most of us may have felt a resentment when those other kids got gifted a nicer car than ours. And most of us probably forgot about it because ... who cares? It's not a big deal! But it seems a fair number of folks have chosen instead to hold onto that resentment, and will tap into it any time an otherwise innocuous celebrity Instagram post comes up.

That's just about the only reasonable explanation for the pure rage some commenters emitted when Beverly Hills, 90210 actress Jennie Garth made a post about the car she bought her 16-year-old daughter for her birthday.

Now, sure, there's no pretending this wasn't an extravagant gift. Jennie Garth is a celebrity, after all, so you'd expect she's not getting her kid a used Honda Civic. As Parade points out, Garth set daughter Fiona up with a brand new white BMW. Garth even got custom wrapping done by a small, family-owned business that Garth shouted out in her Instagram post.

And with what small time any of us have on this big blue marble, some folks decided this needed to be remarked upon with rage. "A new BMW? Nothing like a golden spoon…🙄," one commenter wrote. Another totally chill poster commented, "This is why kids don't know the value of HARD OLD WORK get a starter car NOT A DARN Beamer."

And of course, if there's a complaint about somebody's privilege, and a "kids these days" comment, you might be wondering if we'll complete the internet trifecta with a, "Have you considered that your happiness makes me, an unrelated person, sad?" Oh, you bet:

"Your followers usually don't have your money to be able to buy such a car to their kids...since you said kindness matters, please be aware that being mindful and sensitive over the fact that most people are struggling financially nowadays it's also called KINDNESS. You don't need to spread your money on social media, it's personal."

Just a reminder, these are all reactions to a 90210 star buying a car for her daughter, and posting it on her personal Instagram, which these commenters voluntarily looked at. Now, there were also comments reacting to those comments and coming to Garth's defense. And other commenters took umbrage at the fact that Garth didn't buy her daughter the same red convertible Garth's 90210 character drove.

And you know what? Those are the angry commenters we can get behind. We'll never stop celebrities from buying cars for their kids, but if we work hard enough, we can force all celebrities to only get their kids the cars driven by their most iconic characters. Tom Wopat has to get his kids a General Lee. Hasselhoff? Get your kids a KITT. And Butch Patrick of The Munsters, if you're reading this, we'll let you choose between the Munster Koach or the DRAG-U-LA for any future offspring. That's your call, dealer's choice.
