Jenna Jameson defends breastfeeding on keto diet

Jenna Jameson is a big proponent of the keto diet and says new moms shouldn’t hesitate to try it.

The 44-year-old former adult film star is defending the low-carb, high-fat diet, saying it’s fine to be on the keto diet while breastfeeding. Jameson credits the regimen with helping her shed 80-plus pounds since the birth of daughter, Batel, who turns 2 in April.

In an Instagram post Wednesday, Jameson tackles what for many is a taboo subject. “A lot of naysayers rattle off falsehoods like ‘you have to eat oats to produce sufficient milk.’ Seriously ridiculous,” she begins. Jameson remembers thinking the same thing last year, so she slowly cut back on carbohydrates while monitoring her milk supply.

“I’m not quite sure why I thought processed foods contributed to my fabulous supply. I was absolutely wrong,” she writes. “The moment I got into full ketosis my milk increased.”

Jameson, who has documented her weight-loss journey on social media, says keto is all about a “well rounded” diet. “I am aware all women are not the same, but I think if you do your research, start slowly and monitor yourself…. nursing and keto go hand in hand,” she claims, explaining she started keto when Batel was 1.

Current research on the ketogenic diet and breastfeeding is inconclusive.

This isn’t the first time Jameson has endorsed keto and breastfeeding. She first made waves for promoting the lifestyle last summer. “From my experience it ABSOLUTELY is [safe],” she wrote. “My supply is healthy and strong, I haven’t seen any dips in supply, letdowns, or in Batellis reaction to taste.”

Jameson is also mother of 9-year-old twin boys, Journey and Jesse Ortiz.
