  • Jenna Dewan shared how Pilates helped her strengthen her core after giving birth to her son, Callum, via C-section in March.

  • The actress and dancer said the workouts “gets you fit so fast.”

  • Dewan, who turned 40 in December, said she feels better than ever in her skin.

During the beginning of the pandemic, Jenna Dewan gave birth to her son Callum, so the dancer took those first weeks of quarantine to really focus on her family and her postpartum recovery. In a new interview with Women’s Health, she revealed that time included lots of self-care.

Now, she starts each day with meditation, journaling, and deep breathing exercises. Then, she sweats it out. The mom of two said Pilates has been her go-to workout after undergoing a C-section in March. Now, nearly a year after baby Callum was born, Dewan is doing three or four one-hour Zoom Pilates workouts a week.

“It gets you fit so fast, and you just feel stronger. The dancer in me really likes it because it activates the same muscles in my core,” she said, adding that “you feel things just all start to go where they’re meant to go” following her surgery.

In addition to Pilates, the 40-year-old actress turns to trainer Isaac Boots’s Instagram Live workouts, which include a mix of cardio, strength training, and dancing. “I’m always dancing, even in the kitchen,” Dewan said. “Callum laughs and smiles when I dance, especially when I give him a good hair whip. It’s as if it’s the funniest thing that ever happened.”

Of course, she still has to get creative with little ones running around. Even after she had her first child, Everly, she’d rock her to sleep and simultaneously sneak in some exercise, she previously told InStyle. “So I’d be doing lunges across the room or squats or whatever I was doing, because I was going to be doing it for 40 minutes regardless, so I might as well turn it into a little bit of a workout. I think that it fully helped kind of snap things back in shape a little bit faster than they would have.”

Dewan also eats a vegetarian diet, following an 80/20 mindset with healthy picks and treats. She starts her day with a green smoothie, and for meals, she preps filling dishes loaded with fiber-rich options like quinoa, veggies, and beans.

At 40, Dewan said she feels better than ever as a mom of two. “I feel more grounded in my body,” she told WH. “I feel excited for this next decade and what is available to create. Even in this crazy year, I still have that feeling.”
