Jenna Bush Hager has revealed her September pick for her book club Read With Jenna and though we know better than to judge a book by its cover, it looks hilarious and Bush Hager agrees. The book of the month is Amazing Grace Adams by Fran Littlewood.

“This hilarious book takes place over the course of a very eventful day for Grace Adams, a woman who, at age forty-five, finds herself at a crossroads: she’s unfulfilled in life, her marriage is falling apart, and her daughter won’t speak to her” Bush Hager said in an Instagram post announcing her pick.
On the day in question, Grace is trying to win back the affections of her estranged teen daughter but she’s also just on an overall quest to prove her worth to everyone who once loved her — including herself.

“As Grace navigates the hilariously chaotic day, we see glimpses into her past — the moments that brought her here, on this journey,” Bush Hager adds.
Amazing Grace Adams is the debut novel from Littlewood, a British author. The mom-of-three worked as a financial journalist for The Times before pursuing an MA in creative writing. Littlewood told Today that she was frustrated by the lack of nuance and depth in characters Grace’s age in other books.
“I was so fed up with the kind of vanilla, sanitized cultural depictions of women over 40. As I was hitting these ages it wasn’t how I felt. This notion that we’re supposed to be downtrodden, over the hill, boring — all these adjectives attached to the middle-aged space. I felt that it needed a rebranding,” she says.
And what a rebrand she did. Bush Hager has described the book as “wildly funny.”
“The novel explores themes of self-discovery, mother-daughter relationships, and personal redemption,” Bush Hager concludes in her description of her September recommendation. “Amazing Grace Adams is a tale of hope, second chances, and the beauty of starting over.
