In September 2016, the former President and former First Lady shared a sweet embrace at the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

"I mean that hug was, like, the hug that went around the world. I do love that picture,” Hager told Obama during their Today show interview that will air Wednesday.

“That’s your dad,” Obama responded.

The photo became widely popular because of Bush and Obama's different political views. He is Republican, and she is a Democrat, but two years later, they still get along.

"I got a text from my dad this morning that said, ‘Send Michelle my love,'" Hager said. “I was like, ‘Don’t you call her Mrs. Obama?’ He’s like, ‘No, I call her Michelle.’"

Hager then asked, “Why do you think people are so hungry for that, though?”

“I think the political discourse, the way it’s shown in the media, is - it’s all the nasty parts of it. You know?" Obama responded. "Because I guess we’ve become a culture where nasty sells. So people are just gonna keep feeding that."

In November 2017, Obama appeared to criticize current President Donald Trump's Twitter habits. “When you have a voice, you just can’t use it any kind of way,” she said at The Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago. “You don’t just say what’s on your mind. You don’t tweet every thought."

On Wednesday, Obama reiterated how she would like bipartisanship to come back.

"I’d love if we as a country could get back to the place where we didn’t demonize people who disagreed with us," she said. "Because that’s essentially the difference between Republicans and Democrats. We’re all Americans. We all care about our family our kids, and we’re trying to get ahead. We have different ideas about what’s the best way to get there.”

Obama then told Hager her father is a "beautiful, funny, kind, sweet man," but added, "I don’t know that I agree with him on everything.”
