Jenna Bush Hager, 41, accused the producers of the ‘Today’ show of trying to shame her and her twin sister Barbara Bush for underage drinking in an episode that aired earlier this month. On Thursday, November 9th, Barbara filled in for her sister’s regular co-host Hoda Kotb – and things took an interesting turn when the ladies were reflecting on their youth…

While the sisters were playing a game of ‘First Loves’ on Today with Hoda & Jenna, a question came up about “the first cocktail I ever loved,” which Jenna thought was a subtle dig at her and her sister based on something that happened over 20 years ago.

Jenna Bush Hager Reflects On Her Underage Drinking

If you cast your minds back to 2001, shortly after their father George W. Bush took office, the girls were cited with Class C misdemeanors after a then-19-year-old Jenna was accused of trying to order a drink in a Texas restaurant using a fake ID.

Previously talking to co-host Hoda on an earlier episode of Today, Jenna, who is looking trimmer than ever these days, explained: “I didn’t actually go to jail, I just was arrested. I wasn’t even arrested, I was never detained. I just got a minor in possession of alcohol when I was 20-years-old because I ordered a margarita at Chuy’s with a fake ID.” She also confirmed the ID belonged to “a girl in my sorority. Her name is Allison, it was a real ID. But they took that thing away from me.”

Jenna Bush Hager Says 'Today' Producers Are Trying To 'Shame' Her With Cocktail Question

"I think they're trying to shame us. With our underage drinking, minor possession of alcohol," the Read with Jenna book club founder said on the November 9th show. Barbara followed up by saying, "Yeah. That was rude," naturally taking her sister's side, to which Jenna replied: "I think this is shame coming from my own team."

Do we think the producers were trying to shame the sisters, or was it all just some harmless entertainment? The sisters must have thought it was the latter, as they continued to talk about their first cocktails and everything seemed quite light-hearted.

"I would have to say it was probably a wine cooler," Jenna recalled. "Definitely a wine cooler," Barbara concurred, before Jenna chimed in: "Or a Natty Light." Barbara then asked: "Or, remember there was something called Strawberry Hill? I don't know if that's still around, but I liked it – it was all sugar."
