Jen Kirkman says she’s “jealous” of some men who sexually harass women

As more people speak up about incidents of sexual harassment and assault, it’s hard not to feel frustrated. Especially because it feels like famous men aren’t truly punished for their actions. Comedian Jen Kirkman expressed frustration toward sexual harassers perfectly in a video on Twitter. She even went as far to say that she’s “jealous” of certain men. Why? Because even if they do admit wrongdoing, they usually just get away with disappearing from the public eye.

“I’m gonna say something fucked up, because it’s a little fucked up. I’m actually jealous of the sick and suffering men who harass women, the ones with money,” Kirkman explained in the video. “Because they get to go away, and they get to be left alone in silence. And they have plenty of money and they don’t have to worry. And then they get to rehabilitate themselves, maybe they get to come back in a couple of years. Everyone loves a redemption story.”

Nearly every day, new stories of sexual harassment and assault break. Recently, Rebel Wilson said a male star sexually harassed her while his friends tried to tape it. Actress Kristina Cohen accused Ed Westwick of rape. Five women bravely came forward and accused Louis C.K. of sexual misconduct. But sadly, as you know, these stories are just the beginning.

Time after time, sexist and abusive men in Hollywood get a pass.

Or they are reprimanded, only to get a redemption story after a period of time. Remember when Mel Gibson was blacklisted because he went on an anti-Semitic rant? Now he’s starring in a Christmas movie. It’s hard to feel like justice gets served when powerful, rich men constantly are given a comeback when they definitely don’t deserve it.

We’re glad that women like Kirkman are speaking out against this gross double standard.

Kirkman also talked about how men police women who speak out and how they are treated in general. She ends the video wondering whether if women will get a happy ending or not. “Because we didn’t have a happy beginning, and we don’t have a happy middle. We’re in the mess right now,” she said in the video. “Just wondering.”

We’re wondering too, Jen. And we hope that these men are punished for their actions that have been swept under the rug for too long.
