Jeffree Star Accuses Kylie Jenner of Overcharging For Her Lipstick: "They're Called ColourPop"

Last month, makeup artist/vlogger Jeffree Star slammed Kylie Jenner’s new lip glosses, saying the wand was defective and that he was “SO disappointed” in her product. Kylie has since replaced the wand, sent out new ones to customers, and all seemed to be good in Kylie Cosmetics land.
But then, beauty blogger Stephanie Nicole released a video this week with startling stats claiming Kylie Cosmetics’ matte lipsticks (especially the new formula) are basically just ColourPop matte lipsticks with more expensive packaging. And according to an interview with Racked, Jeffree agrees, and is echoing the same sentiments.
When asked if he thinks that Kylie spent enough time researching the formulas for her lip products, Jeffree said no. “She found a lab that makes a $5 formula and they’re called ColourPop,” he added. “They gave her the same exact one with her name on it and charged $20 more. I’m bored.”
When he says “they,” he means the lab that Kylie uses to create her lip products, which has been widely reported to be the same as ColourPop. It’s important to note, though, that many makeup companies use the same labs. She’s also never denied it, and even posted a photo from the lab.
Jeffree had no idea his initial comments about Kylie Cosmetics was going to blow up as much as it did, but it’s obvious he doesn’t regret it. “If the product didn’t suck, I wouldn’t have anything to say,” he said. “I was just giving my honest review.”
As someone who uses both Kylie’s matte lipsticks AND ColourPop’s, the formulas do seem different enough to me. Not HUGELY, but different. Still, you have the option to buy whichever lipstick your heart desires.
