Jeannie Mai and her estranged husband Jay “Jeezy” Jenkins are struggling to remain amicable while navigating divorce and child custody.

On Tuesday, The Real host responded to the musician’s previous claims that she was “gatekeeping” their nearly 2-year-old daughter Monaco. In a court filing obtained by People, Mai’s lawyers asserted that her reluctance to allow Jeezy time with their toddler stems from safety concerns rather than unfounded pettiness.

“It is essential to clarify that Ms. Jenkins’ insistence on reasonable safety measures being put in place, such as safely securing and locking away all firearms that have been unsecured in the past, as well as having familiarity and properly trained caregivers is absolutely not gatekeeping, but rather a responsible effort to prioritize their daughter’s well-being,” the filing read.

The document continued, “These requests are grounded in Ms. Jenkins’ genuine concern for the parties’ daughter’s safety and security, especially when under the care of others and traveling across the country, and are reasonable protective measures, not an attempt to restrict Mr. Jenkins’ access to their daughter.”

Jeezy’s filing in question was submitted in November. His lawyers stated that he “does not believe that [Mai] is acting maliciously or with specific intent to harm,” but he does believe she “has acted as a gatekeeper when it comes to [Jeezy] exercising parenting time with [Monaco].” The filing further alleged that the mom of one is “causing confusion and tension between the parties and is working to stifle the development” between Jeezy and their daughter.

Additionally, the estranged couple is squabbling over a previously agreed-upon custody arrangement that was put in place for the remainder of the year. Jeezy’s November filing included claims that the temporary visitation schedule was “becoming increasingly less feasible.”

“The lack of consistency, continuity, and stability inherently associated with such a haphazard and fluid parenting time schedule is stressful to the Child (Monaco), and it has, as is unfortunately inevitable with all families in transition, created unnecessary tension and confusion regarding not only parenting time but also in regard to each parent’s role and rights when the Child is in their respective custody.”

In her newly filed rebuttal, Mai claimed she’s granted her estranged husband every date he’s wanted to see Monaco, as well as additional time to spend with their daughter during the holidays. The ongoing dispute comes after Jeezy filed for divorce in September after two years of marriage.
