Jeanne Muchnick's 'Best Thing I Ate This Week': Super fresh fish in Piermont

If you're a sushi lover, you've got to try Sabi Sushi in Piermont. Many may know the chef/owner Doug Nguyen from his many years at Wasabi in Nyack. He's also worked at restaurants in the City and is a longtime veteran of the industry.

So when I say his sushi is the best thing I ate this week, I mean it. His fish is super fresh and of high quality. He's also exacting in everything he does. And creative. Case in point: the mini tuna pizza with tuna, onion, tomato and mustard aioli on a crispy tortilla. Also the O-Torro fatty tuna, which he said is one of his most popular dishes among his younger clientele.

I'm also a fan of his Piermont roll (you can't be in Piermont and not get!): a combo of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp and avocado on the outside; crab and tobiko on the inside.

And of course for the adventurous, you can always try the Omakase.

There are choices, too, for non-sushi lovers, including Chicken Teriyaki; Crispy Seared Half Duck; Pineapple Jumbo Shrimp and a pork chop, among other dishes.

The 20-seat space, complete with a sushi counter for watching the action, is cozy and serene, a nice respite after a long day and a definite lohudfood fave.
