From Apple to Gravity and even X Æ A-Xii, the celebrity world is full of unique baby names. And that includes Jay-Z and Beyoncé's three children: Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir.

But, while many fans have speculated that Blue Ivy's name is a tribute to the couple's favourite colour (that being blue, obvs), Jay-Z recently revealed how their first born actually got her name – and what she was almost called.

Speaking to Gayle King during a two-part interview with CBS Mornings, the rapper explained that he and Beyoncé intended to call her Brooklyn, in honour of the New York borough he grew up in. That changed, however, when the pair settled on a nickname after seeing the first sonogram of their little one.

"We was calling her Blueberry. Like, 'Look at the little blueberry.' You know, it was like a nickname," Jay Z recalled, adding that when their daughter was born it felt "natural" to keep the moniker in some form. "We just took the berry off and called her Blue."

Commenting on the now-11-year-old – who recently performed alongside her mother during the Renaissance Tour – Jay-Z gushed about his pride. "She's been born into a life she didn't ask for. So since she was born she's been in, like, scrutiny and public eye, and everyone having an opinion," he said. "I know how nervous she was [to perform onstage]. I know how frightened she was. And she wanted to do it."

He went on, "So for her to be on that stage and reclaim her power and the song is called 'My Power' – you can't write a better script."

So sweet! 💙
