Jay-Z Reveals His and Beyoncé’s Parenting Style in Rare Interview

Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s kids have pretty incredible parents. Imagine being the child of actual icons? There’s no doubt that nine-year-old Blue Ivy and three-year-old twins Sir and Rumi basically won the parental lottery. However, Jay-Z reveals in a recent interview with The Times that despite being a mogul, he doesn’t focus on raising his kids to follow in his and Beyoncé’s footsteps.

In the rare interview, he admits that showing your child love is “the most important thing”: “Feeling loved is the most important thing a child needs, you know? Not ‘Here's this business that I’m going to hand over to you, that I’m creating for you.’”

Jay-Z continues, “What if my child doesn’t want to be in music or sports? I have no idea, right? But as long as your child feels supported, and feels loved, I think anything is possible.”

Of course, Blue already takes after her parents. She sings on her mom’s track, “Brown Skin Girl” (she also wrote a verse for it and starred in the music video). Plus, the Black Is King track won the Grammy Award for best music video, making Blue the second-youngest person to win a Grammy—ever. You know, just your average activities for an elementary schooler.

Blue can also dance like the “Drunk in Love” singer. Her grandma Tina Lawson shared a video of Blue showing off her moves. Lawson captioned the video, “This is Blue but I swear it looks like Solange dancing at this age ❤️.”

Jay-Z concludes in his interview, “[The goal is to] just make sure we provide a loving environment, be very attentive to who they want to be. It’s easy for us, as human beings, to want our children to do certain things, but we have no idea. We’re just guides.”

Well, Jay-Z and Beyoncé seem like pretty amazing guides thus far.
